Active Fires

Two wildfires burning in Boundary County, Idaho near the community of Copeland have prompted a coordinated multi-agency response including large airtankers, scoop planes, helicopters, and engine task forces deployed by the Idaho Fire Chiefs Association. The Turner Fire started July 15 approximately five miles south of Copeland.

Two major wildfires are burning across eastern Washington this week, with the Kaiser Canyon Fire threatening communities on the Colville Reservation and the Lyons Ferry Fire forcing State Fire Mobilization in the southeast. Combined, the fires have burned nearly 97,000 acres.

A lightning-sparked wildfire in Okanogan County has grown from 12,500 acres to more than 60,000 acres in just three days, prompting Level 3 Go Now evacuations near Nespelem and displacing more than 1,000 residents.

Washington's largest active wildfire, the Lyons Ferry Fire in Franklin and Garfield counties, has grown to an estimated 30,000 acres and is pouring heavy smoke across eastern Washington. Hazardous air quality has been recorded in Spokane.

NIFC confirms 49 large fires burning across the U.S. as the National Preparedness Level holds at 4. Over 3.67 million acres have burned in 2026, with MAFFS military aircraft activated to support overwhelmed suppression resources.

Idaho is managing four large fires as Elder Fire evacuations near Worley were issued and lifted within 23 minutes, while the lightning-caused Upper Smith Fire emerges in remote terrain northwest of Bonners Ferry. Hot, dry conditions across the Inland Northwest keep fire danger elevated statewide.
