Active Fires

Washington is fighting 13 large fires, led by the 166,000-acre Sinlahekin Fire near Tonasket. The Sisi and King fires remain at 0% containment as crews gain ground statewide.

Twelve large fires burn across Idaho, with clusters of nearly uncontained blazes in the Nez Perce-Clearwater and Idaho Panhandle national forests presenting the toughest suppression challenges of the season.

Idaho is home to 12 large active fires stretching from the Idaho Panhandle to the Boise National Forest. The Crooked Fire near Idaho City has grown to nearly 10,000 acres, while multiple Nez Perce–Clearwater fires remain at 0% containment in remote terrain.

Washington leads all states with 14 active large fires as Governor Ferguson's emergency declaration and burn ban remain in effect. Over 600 structures have been damaged or destroyed statewide, with the Little Giant, Sisi, and Sinlahekin fires continuing to threaten communities.

The Little Giant Fire in Chelan County has surpassed 170,000 acres, making it Washington's largest active wildfire. Military personnel from Joint Base Lewis-McChord are supporting suppression efforts, while evacuation levels have been reduced as containment improves.

Idaho is tied with Washington for the most active large fires in the nation, with 14 incidents burning across the Panhandle, Boise, and Nez Perce-Clearwater national forests. Several fires have zero percent containment and are actively threatening structures and critical infrastructure.

With 52,626 wildfires burning more than 8.2 million acres year-to-date — 163% of the 10-year average — the 2026 fire season is shaping up as one of the most destructive on record. Idaho, Washington, and Oregon together account for 38 of the 84 active large fires nationwide.

As of August 27, 94 large fires are burning across 16 states, with 51,434 wildfires consuming 7.97 million acres nationwide — 164% of the 10-year average for acres burned.
