Active Fires

Two large wildfires — the Hagen Fire east of Pendleton and the Grasshopper Fire in Grant County — are among the most challenging active incidents in Oregon, with low containment percentages and active fire behavior threatening rangeland, wildlife habitat, and rural infrastructure.

The Big Grass Fire has burned more than 578,000 acres across the Oregon-Idaho border, making it the largest wildfire in Oregon's modern recorded history. It is now 71% contained after weeks of intense suppression efforts.

Oregon's highest-priority fire has grown to over 57,000 acres in Wasco County near Wamic, fueled by extreme heat, east winds, and drought-dry fuels along the eastern Cascades.

The Spokane Area Fires complex has burned roughly 10,000 acres, destroyed or damaged 900+ structures, and displaced thousands of residents across Spokane County since igniting August 1, 2026.

The Tartar Fire near Weiser has burned over 138,000 acres in Washington County, while the massive Big Grass Fire on the Oregon-Idaho border has consumed hundreds of thousands of acres of rangeland. Idaho's fire outlook remains above average through September.

Oregon's active wildfire season continues with the Hagen Fire approaching 40,000 acres near Pendleton, the Rowe Creek Complex at 76% containment, and the Big Grass Fire at over 339,000 acres on the Oregon-Idaho border.

The U.S. is battling 97 large fires across 3.5 million acres as of August 8, with Oregon and Washington shouldering the heaviest burden in what is shaping up to be one of the worst fire seasons on record.
