A Season of Historic Destruction
Washingtonβs 2026 wildfire season has been among the most damaging in state history. Earlier this summer, the Spokane Complex β comprising the Old Trails, Fairview, and Autumn Lane fires β destroyed or damaged at least 600 structures in the Spokane area during an extreme fire weather event in early August. Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide state of emergency and issued a burn ban through September in response.
Across all active fires in Washington, the combined structure loss stands at more than 73 confirmed structures. State and federal firefighting agencies continue coordinating response through the Northwest Geographic Area Coordination Center in Portland.
