Evacuation orders and warnings are in effect for communities across eastern Washington, northeastern Oregon, and southwestern Idaho as dozens of wildfires continue to burn across the Pacific Northwest. As of August 7, 2026, officials urge all residents in affected areas to heed evacuation notices without delay and to monitor their county emergency management channels for the latest updates.
Washington State Evacuation Zones
Washington state has seen the most widespread evacuation activity in the current fire emergency. Evacuation orders and warnings are currently in effect in or near the following areas, according to county emergency management offices and the Washington DNR Wildfire Portal:
- Spokane area โ Level 3 (Go Now) orders remain in place for portions of Spokane County affected by the Old Trails Fire and related incidents. Residents who have not yet evacuated should leave immediately.
- Lake Chelan โ Evacuation orders are in effect for areas surrounding Lake Chelan in Chelan County as fire activity threatens structures and the tourism corridor along the lake.
- Tonasket โ Communities near Tonasket in Okanogan County are under evacuation warnings as fires burn through timber and rangeland in the northeastern part of the state.
- Inchelium โ Residents near Inchelium on the Colville Reservation face evacuation orders as fire activity encroaches on tribal lands. The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation are coordinating emergency response with state and federal partners.
- Mead โ The community of Mead, north of Spokane, has been under evacuation warning, with residents advised to prepare to leave on short notice.
- Rathdrum, Idaho โ Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation notices have been issued to residents near Rathdrum in Kootenai County, Idaho, as embers from Washington state fires pose a risk of igniting new fires across the border.
Okanogan and Ferry Counties
Okanogan and Ferry counties โ veterans of past devastating fire seasons โ are again facing significant wildfire pressure. Fires burning in the remote timber country of the Okanogan Highlands and Kettle River Range have prompted evacuation orders for several rural communities and Highway 20 corridor communities. Ferry County, which includes the Republic and Kettle Falls areas, has active evacuation notices in place.
Oregon Evacuation Activity
Multiple Oregon counties are managing evacuation orders linked to the Rowe Creek Complex and other fires burning across central and eastern Oregon. Evacuation levels range from Level 1 (Be Ready) to Level 3 (Go Now) in portions of Crook, Jefferson, and Malheur counties. The Oregon Office of Emergency Management maintains an up-to-date evacuation zone map at oregon.gov/OEM.
What the Evacuation Levels Mean
- Level 1 โ Be Ready: Be aware of the danger, review your emergency plan, and prepare your Go Kit. Be ready to leave on short notice.
- Level 2 โ Be Set: Be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Persons with special needs or with pets and livestock should leave now.
- Level 3 โ Go Now: Leave immediately. Do not wait to gather belongings. Your life is at risk.
Residents are reminded that returning to an evacuation zone before officials declare it safe is both dangerous and may interfere with firefighting operations. Emergency shelters are available across the region; contact your county emergency management office or call 211 for shelter locations.
