Widespread evacuation orders and notices are in effect across the Pacific Northwest this weekend as multiple large wildfires burn in remote and residential areas alike. From the Colville Reservation in north-central Washington to Baker County in eastern Oregon, thousands of residents are under orders to leave immediately or prepare to do so.

Washington State Evacuations

The Kaiser Canyon Fire on the Colville Reservation has generated the largest single evacuation footprint in Washington State this season. Level 3 “Go Now” orders are in place along Highway 155 between Coyote Creek Campground and Haley Creek, extending south along Haley Creek Road to Omak Lake Road, down Columbia River Road, and south to Kartar Valley Road. More than 1,000 residents have been displaced, with many finding shelter through tribal programs and county emergency services. At least 20 structures have been destroyed.

Near Leavenworth, Chelan County has expanded Level 3 orders for the Little Giant Fire to include the Trinity area and homes on Chikamin Ridge Road (FS Road 6210). Level 2 (“Be Ready”) notices extend from Atkinson Flats to Grouse Creek Group Campground, and a Level 1 Advisory covers the area from Grouse Creek to Alder Creek. No structures have been lost in that fire as of Friday’s update.

Oregon Evacuations

Oregon is managing evacuations across several counties simultaneously:

  • Umatilla County: Level 3 orders along Bingham Road, the Umatilla River Corridor, and the Hagen Creek area due to the Hagen Fire complex. Emergency shelter at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton.
  • Baker County: Level 3 orders in place for zones US-OR-BAK-BAB-170, US-OR-BAK-BAB-1313, and US-OR-BAK-RIR-128 due to fire activity near Baker City. An air quality advisory is also in effect for Baker City and surrounding communities.
  • Harney County: The Egypt Fire south of Emigrant Butte has generated evacuation notices for residents in its path.

Statewide, OPB reports that more than 1,000 Oregonians have been forced from their homes by wildfire activity this week.

  • Level 2 (Be Ready): Pack all valuables and be prepared to leave on short notice.
  • Level 3 (Go Now): Leave immediately. Do not wait. Roads may become unsafe.
