Fire Status
The Castle Fire is located approximately 23 miles northeast of Tiller, Oregon, in Douglas County. As of August 7, the fire had reached approximately 2,995 acres with 48% containment — a significant improvement from earlier in the week, when containment was reported at 30% and acreage estimates stood at 2,758 acres.
Active fire behavior on the Castle Fire has included creeping spread through timber and brush, isolated torching of individual trees and tree groups, and short-range spotting ahead of the main perimeter. These behaviors can complicate final suppression and mop-up efforts, requiring crews to be vigilant even on portions of the line that appear contained.
Closures and Public Access
The Umpqua National Forest has issued area, road, and trail closures covering National Forest System lands within the fire’s vicinity. Under the closure order, all access to affected National Forest lands is prohibited until conditions allow for safe reopening.
