Level 3 "Go Now" evacuation orders remain in effect for residents and property owners near the Austin Fire burning in the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mount Hood National Forest, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confirmed this week. The fire has burned more than 12,600 acres in steep, timbered terrain southeast of Estacada, Oregon.
Current Evacuation Levels
Clackamas County is using Oregon's standardized three-level evacuation notification system:
- Level 3 โ Go Now: Immediate danger is present. Leave immediately. Do not wait for instructions. Take your essential items. Your life may be at risk.
- Level 2 โ Be Set: Be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Residents should be ready to evacuate quickly. Monitor your local alert systems.
- Level 1 โ Be Ready: Be aware and prepare for possible evacuation. Residents should review emergency plans and prepare go-bags.
The specific boundaries of active evacuation zones are updated regularly. Residents should verify the most current zone assignments through the Clackamas County Emergency Management website or by calling the county's emergency hotline.
Emergency Area Closures
In addition to evacuation orders, the U.S. Forest Service has implemented emergency area closures across portions of the Clackamas River Ranger District to protect both public safety and suppression operations. These closures encompass roads, trails, campgrounds, and recreation areas within the fire perimeter and adjacent buffer zones.
Violating forest closure orders is a federal offense and can endanger both trespassers and the firefighters working nearby. Forest Service law enforcement is actively patrolling the closure boundaries.
Road Closures and Access
Several roads in the Estacada area and the upper Clackamas River corridor have been closed or restricted to emergency traffic only. Residents under evacuation orders should not attempt to return to their properties until official all-clear notices are issued through county emergency management channels.
Shelter and Support
The American Red Cross has opened evacuation assistance resources for those displaced by the Austin Fire. Residents with livestock and large animals are encouraged to contact local fairgrounds or contact the Oregon Humane Society for animal evacuation assistance.
